University of Reading Student Moves — RG6 End-of-Term & September Move-in Guide

University of Reading student moves from our Queens Walk branch. Whiteknights, Wantage, Childs Hall, St George's and Earley student lets. Van-share rates, term-end crunch, summer storage.

University of Reading student belongings packed and ready for a term-end move in RG6

The University of Reading has around 17,000 students spread across Whiteknights campus, the smaller London Road campus, halls of residence (Wantage Hall, Childs Hall, St George's Hall and others), and the dense Earley student-let corridor (RG6). Between them they generate a sharp term-end crunch every June and a frantic move-in week every September. Here's our 2026 RG6 student-move playbook.

Whiteknights & halls of residence

Whiteknights campus is the main university site (RG6 6UR). On-site halls include Wantage Hall, Childs Hall, St George's Hall, Sherfield Hall, Bridges Hall, Stenton Townhouse. Move-out window is typically the last two weeks of June — we run shared-van routes during this period. Move-in window is mid-to-late September.

Earley & Lower Earley student lets

RG6 1, RG6 5 and RG6 7 have the densest concentration of student houses in Reading — Whiteknights Road, Burnham Rise, Eaglehurst Avenue, Marefield, Beech Lane and Wantage Road. Most are 4–7 bedroom HMOs with annual tenancy turnovers around 1st July. The week of 25 June – 5 July is our peak student-move week of the year.

Per-student van-share rates

For single-bedroom student-belongings moves within RG-postcodes (typical: 20–30 boxes plus a mattress topper plus a desk), our van-share rate is £75 per person, RG-wide. Most term-end Friday/Saturday runs have 2–4 students sharing the same vehicle. For larger family moves (parents relocating to be inside Whiteknights walking catchment), the fixed-quote model applies.

Summer storage at our Queens Walk depot

Our Queens Walk branch holds 2–3 cubic metres of student belongings per booking at £12/week/cu m — typical summer-break need is 2 cu m, so £24/week or roughly £290 for a full June-to-September break. Cheaper than the dedicated student-storage firms (Big Yellow, Easystore Reading), with 7-day appointment access and a 10-minute drive from Whiteknights.

Furnished vs unfurnished student lets

Most Earley/RG6 student lets are furnished — your move is just boxes, a chair, a desk and a wardrobe of clothes. We can run these as small-van same-day jobs from £85 (collection + drop within RG-area). For unfurnished lets where you bring your own bed and wardrobe, standard student-room quotes are £180–£280.
