Royal Borough Parking Dispensations — What Every SL6 Mover Needs to Know

How RBWM parking dispensations work for moving day. Suspended bays, single-yellow waivers, fees, lead times — and why HomeGo Maidenhead absorbs the cost into your fixed quote.

Maidenhead suspended-bay sign on a residential street

Half the moves we do in SL6 need some form of Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead (RBWM) parking dispensation. Most customers have never heard of them until they're standing in their drive at 8am asking why a Polestar is in the spot we needed for the lorry. Here's how dispensations work and how we handle them on your behalf.

What is a dispensation?

RBWM dispensations come in two flavours: suspended bays (a normal residents' or pay-and-display bay temporarily reserved for you, marked with a yellow notice 48 hours in advance) and yellow-line waivers (legal permission to load/unload on a single-yellow line for a defined window).

What do they cost?

  • Suspended bay: £25 per bay per day (2026 RBWM rate)
  • Single-yellow-line waiver: £45 per zone per day
  • Double-yellow-line waiver: by application only, typically £85+ and 5+ working days lead time

Lead time — book 5 working days ahead

RBWM requires 5 working days' notice for standard suspended-bay applications. Same-day and 24-hour expedites are sometimes possible but cost double. The "yellow paper notice" must legally be displayed 48 hours before the move — we sort this so you don't have to think about it.

When do you actually need one?

You need a dispensation in SL6 if any of these apply: your street has residents-only or pay-and-display bays only; your property is on a single-yellow line; your move falls on a market day in Maidenhead Town Centre (1st/3rd Saturday); or you're in Windsor SL4 anywhere near the Castle or Long Walk.

How HomeGo Maidenhead handles them

We apply for the dispensation under our company name (HomeGo Removals & Packing Ltd) so you don't need to deal with the RBWM portal. The £25/£45 fee is included in your fixed quote — there is no separate line item on your invoice. National competitors often add this as a £35–£90 "moving-day permit fee" — we never do.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an RBWM parking dispensation cost?

Suspended bay £25 per bay per day; single-yellow-line waiver £45 per zone per day; double-yellow-line waiver £85+ (rare). All 2026 RBWM rates. We absorb these into the fixed quote.

How far in advance do you need to apply?

5 working days for standard applications. We typically apply the day you confirm your move date with us. Same-day and 24-hour expedites are possible at roughly double the fee.

Does my whole street need a dispensation?

No — only the bay(s) directly outside the loading/unloading address. Typically 1–2 bays at each end. Wider road closures are rare and only needed for very large detached-house moves.

What if I forget and book without a dispensation?

Call us — we'll try a same-day application. If the timing is tight we'll work with available kerbside space and prioritise small-vehicle access. Worst case we run two shorter Luton-van trips instead of one rigid-truck load.

Does the dispensation cover the moving van or my own car?

Only the named removals vehicle. Resident cars in suspended bays before the notice goes up are usually fine — RBWM doesn't backdate enforcement.
