Our Reading branch runs a 100% Euro-6-compliant fleet — every Luton van, every 7.5-tonne rigid, every transit. Combined with our box-reuse programme and recycled-material packing, the average HomeGo move generates 40–50% less landfill and ~25% less embodied carbon than a typical national-firm move. Here's how it works in practice.

100% Euro-6 fleet

Every HomeGo vehicle meets Euro-6 emissions standards — they're compliant with London ULEZ, Oxford ZEZ, Birmingham CAZ and the upcoming Reading-area low-emission zones. No daily charge passed on to you. Older diesel vans (Euro-3 / Euro-4) generate 4–6× more NOx per move; we removed them from the fleet in 2024.

The box-reuse programme

Every move we do generates 40–80 used boxes in good condition. Rather than landfill them, we offer them FREE to the next customer's move. Around 30% of our packing boxes are reused — saving 1,200+ boxes/year from the recycle bin and saving each customer ~£35–£60 on materials.

Recycled packing materials

• Cartons: 100% recycled corrugate, FSC-certified, fully recyclable
• Bubble wrap: partial-recycled-content (typically 30–50% by weight) and we collect for reuse after each move
• Packing paper: recycled newsprint and FSC-certified packing paper
• Tape: paper-based gummed tape on request (instead of plastic adhesive)
• Wardrobe boxes: heavy-duty cartons, returned and reused for ~50 moves before recycling

Carbon-footprint comparison

Typical 3-bed move within Reading: HomeGo ~22 kg CO₂e total (vehicle + materials). National-firm equivalent: 28–35 kg CO₂e (heavier consolidated truck, depot transfer, mostly virgin materials). Per-move saving: 6–13 kg CO₂e — equivalent to a 30–60-mile car journey.

How customers can amplify the saving

Three options if eco matters to you: (1) Ask for reused-only boxes when you book (just say "second-hand boxes please" — no cost). (2) Return our boxes and packing materials at the end of unpack — we collect free within RG-postcodes. (3) Choose a mid-week mid-month move date — fleet utilisation is highest so per-move emissions per cu m are lowest.

Future plans

By end of 2027 we're aiming for the Reading branch to run at least one all-electric Luton van for sub-30-mile RG-postcode moves. Watch this space.
