SL6 Student Moves — Maidenhead Girls' School, Furze Platt & The Wider School Run Move-In Guide

Maidenhead has 4 senior schools and 3 sixth-form colleges. Term-end and term-start move tips, boarding-house turnovers, and per-student van-share rates from our SL6 branch.

School-uniform packed boxes ready for a Maidenhead student term-end move

Maidenhead has more than the Crossrail commute going for it — it's home to four well-known senior schools and three sixth-form colleges. Between them they generate a steady cadence of student and family relocations, plus a sharp term-end spike every July and start-of-term scramble every September. Here's our SL6 student-move playbook.

The four schools that drive demand

  • Newlands Girls' School (Farm Road, SL6 5JB) — mixed-day grammar-track girls' school, 1,100 students. Parents typically settle within SL6 7 (Furze Platt) and SL6 1 (Town Centre) for the walk-in catchment.
  • Furze Platt Senior School (Furze Platt Road, SL6 7NQ) — large mixed comp, 1,400 students. SL6 7 and SL6 3 (Cox Green) catchment.
  • Desborough College (Shoppenhangers Road, SL6 2QB) — boys' comp, 800+ students. SL6 2 / SL6 4 catchment.
  • Cox Green School (Highfield Lane, SL6 3AX) — mixed comp, 1,100 students. SL6 3 / SL6 7 catchment.

Sixth-form colleges

Berkshire College of Agriculture (Hall Place, Burchetts Green), East Berkshire College (Maidenhead Campus, Boyn Hill Road), and Windsor & Maidenhead College all draw 16–19-year-olds. Sixth-form move-in is typically in early September with a smaller surge in January.

Per-student van-share rates

For single-bedroom student-belongings moves within SL6 (typical: 20–30 boxes plus a mattress topper plus a desk), our van-share rate is £75 per person, SL6-wide. Most term-end Friday/Saturday runs have 2–4 students sharing the same vehicle. For larger family moves (parents relocating to be inside catchment), the fixed-quote model applies.

Term-end / term-start crunch dates

  • Friday before the last week of July — boarding-house turnover spike
  • First week of September — sixth-form move-in to halls and private lets
  • Last week of January — mid-year boarding readmits

Book 3+ weeks ahead for any of these dates — our diary fills early.

Storage between terms

Our Queen Street branch holds 2–3 cubic metres of student belongings per booking at £12/week — cheaper than the dedicated student-storage firms, with 7-day appointment access from our Maidenhead depot.

Furniture-included student lets

Many SL6 student lets are furnished — so the move is just boxes, a chair, a desk and a wardrobe. We can run these as small-van same-day jobs from £85 (collection + drop in SL6). For unfurnished lets where you bring your own bed and wardrobe, the standard student-room quote is £180–£280.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a single-student move in Maidenhead?

£75 per person on a shared-van route within SL6. For a private same-day single-room move with a small van, £85–£180 depending on volume and access.

Do you handle Maidenhead boarding-house turnovers?

Yes — Newlands and the smaller boarding components of Desborough and Furze Platt all run end-of-term turnover with our crew. We coordinate with the boarding-house staff for staggered loading windows.

Can you store student belongings between terms?

Yes — £12/week/cu m at our Queen Street depot. Typical student need is 2–3 cu m for a full summer break. Cheaper than dedicated student-storage firms.

When should I book a September term-start move?

Mid-August latest. The first week of September is our busiest week of the year. Earlier is always better.

Do you do parent-relocation moves into school catchment?

Yes — full family relocations into Newlands, Furze Platt, Desborough and Cox Green catchments are a regular request. Standard fixed-quote applies.
